Danny Welbeck
Currently a without a club.

Worth it on a one season deal as back up, just seen as we don’t really have anyone else? Has he got anything left in the tank and can he stay fit? We don’t really lose anything if he can’t stay fit.

I suppose unless he agreed to play for free the owners would plead poverty and wouldn’t ok it.

No. He’s shit and always injured.

Pay as you play deal is the only way I’d consider him.

Re: Danny Welbeck
That’s exactly the sort of thing I’d have in mind. Something with very little downside or risk. With those sort of terms I think it could be worth a punt.

Re: Danny Welbeck
does the club not develop any young strikers? i'd rather give one of them a chance at breaking through than pay him £50k a week

Re: Danny Welbeck
Antonio won't play every game this season. Haller will start when he doesn't, and given that he isn't quite Stéphane Guivarc'h yet, we'll need someone to replace him at times.

On a low contract I'd be happy with him or Daniel Sturridge for a handful of games/sub appearances, although I doubt they'd be happy with a low contract.

Other famous/free options include Pato and Mario Mandzukic (and Samir Nasri or Jack Wilshere) - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54446137

Is this how desperate it’s got.

Re: Danny Welbeck
I wouldn't advocate signing Welbeck, but if were not going to spend any actual money on King or Grant, then injuries aside Welbeck would be a more suitable back up to Antonio in our current system than Haller.

But it would need to be either some sort of pay as you play deal or a low wage. I imagine he will still expect someone to give him a hundred bags a week like Watford were simply because he's on a free and was an England international a while back.

Re: Danny Welbeck
I’d rather just sign Josh King but if it come to it he’s better than nothing. Didn’t he play quite a few games last season, although same was said for Wilshere at Bournemouth and look how that turned out.

Pretty much. Sniffing around for scraps after a woeful inadequate transfer window leaving the squad ridiculously short in a number of places. As someone said on another thread we are an injury to Antonio, Rice or Soucek away from being fucked in either midfield or up front.

Re: Danny Welbeck
At this point I wonder if we should just wait until January now.

Signing Championship or out of contract players for the sake of signing someone seems pointless.

Maybe Ryan Manning at 5 million who can play left back and midfield might be worth it but that’s it.

Re: Danny Welbeck
Let me explain how this actually works, as this isn't Football Manager.

As he is commanding (or rather was) a high wage until recently - his agent will tout him around. He has prem league experience etc, and is english.

clubs will happily consider him, now he is free as his wages is more than offset by lack of fees.

we dont decide to offer him pay and play as he will have plenty of offers of a regular wage, either here or abroad, pay and play is a myth. its not happening and wont

hell probably go to turkey or china and pick up a crazy wedge for doing fuck all

This deserves a Don Logan NO NO NO NO answer.

Do any players actually accept pay as you pay deals? If Welbeck were willing to accpet one, I'd still not be convinced it was the right idea.

I don't believe he would have the hunger and commitment we want from signings.

Squad is too thin though. Only a couple of injuries or rona isolations and we're stuffed.

He's shit and finally reached his level after nicking a living at Man United and Arsenal. Embarrassing that he got England caps.
